My journey into preparedness began at a young age as an Eagle Scout, where I learned the foundational skills of self-reliance and the ‘Be Prepared’ mindset. I spent years mastering fire-starting and emergency shelter building—skills that taught me how to stay calm and focused when things go wrong.
In college I found my interest in health and science which led me to pursue a Master’s in Public Health (MPH), where I specialized in understanding disease prevention, health systems, and community safety.
I remember a professor once said “you can have a dozen problems but if you have a health problem then you only have one problem”. That resonated with me because it made me realize that staying healthy is paramount to be able to take care of yourself and your family at all times but especially during an emergency.
Today, as a father of two, my experience, education and beliefs have created the foundation of my own personal health and safety preparedness. I do not consider myself a classic “prepper” by any means but I do believe that any family or individual should have a basic level of emergency preparedness to remain safe, healthy and resilient when events beyond our control disrupt normal life. I started the Prepared Health HQ blog to share what I have learned throughout my journey.
